This study aims to determine the factors that affect the food preferences of cat and dog owners as pets. It was also aimed to determine whether the factors affecting these preferences differ according to the type of pet (cat or dog) and some basic demographic (age, gender, marital status, occupation, income level) variables. The scope of this study consists of cat and dog owners in Malatya. The distribution of the data obtained from the participants is shown with frequency and percentage values. The data of the study were collected with a scale form developed by the researcher to determine the factors affecting the food preferences of pet owners. In order to test the research questions developed within the scope of the research purposes, non-parametric tests (Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis) were used because the number of individuals in subgroups was less than 30 or did not show a normal distribution. The results of the research show that the factors affecting the food preferences of pet (cat and dog) owners are listed under three basic factors. According to the results of the analysis, these three main factors emerged as advertisement, price and product. Another result of the study revealed that the opinions of pet owners on the factors affecting their food preferences (advertisement, price and product) differ in sub-dimensions according to the type of animal owned (cat and dog) and some other variables.
